Curare quickens the pulse of instruments

In the Orinoco basin, near the village of Esmeralda, a single specimen of the Curarea toxicofera vine, its bark carefully stripped and dried, held more than just a botanical curiosity. Its potent curare, prepared by the Maquiritare people, had long been described by travelers as a swift, silent killer.
